The Right AnchorBefore the work on the deck and mudroom began I worked on completing an important project that had been put off too long. I installed some tie-down straps on the tiny home. After feeling how much the strong winds of the Spring storms moved the tiny home around, it seemed wise to give it some additional stability through the installation of the straps. Now, not I nor anyone else would recommend trying to ride out a tornado in a tiny home, but at least these straps would give it a fighting chance. The setup consists of driving an auger-type screw (see pic below) into the ground at the four corners of the tiny home. Then metal straps and hooks are cinched down to the ground screw, offering four strong connection points to the ground. As I twisted the screws into the dirt, it made me think about the importance of being anchored. The right anchor keeps you from being tossed around when the storm is raging around you. It doesn't make the storm go away, but it keeps the storm from destroying you. I love this verse in Hebrews that refers to Jesus, our hope, our anchor of the soul: “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,” (Hebrews 6:19, ESV) What, or who, is your anchor of the soul? What or who are you counting on to keep you grounded when (not if) the storms of life are raging around you? The right time to put anchors on the tiny home is BEFORE the Spring storms come around again. The right time to solidify Jesus as the Anchor of our Soul is now, not after the storm has arrived. May we look to Jesus, our Hope, as the Anchor of our Soul. The only One that can keep us grounded in and out of the storms of life.
