Thorny Saplings and SinEarlier this week I went out to do some needed mowing in the cool of the morning. Before I could cut the grass near our entrance, first I had to get rid of some thorny, tire-popping honey locust tree saplings. We have a LOT of honey locust trees on the property and they are extremely good at reproducing themselves. As I was pulling up or cutting the young honey locust saplings, it reminded me of the importance of rooting out sin in our lives. If we will listen to the Holy Spirit and get rid of sin before it becomes deeply rooted and big, it is a much easier, less painful process. But if we don't, that sin becomes a big, well rooted tree with gnarly thorns. I was convicted by this, and grateful to God for the reminder to be on the lookout for “small” sinful thoughts or practices in my life that if left to grow, will become much bigger and harder to remove later on.
